Receivers

Receivers are electronic devices that are used to get broadcasts from signals. Receivers use antennas to get the strongest airwaves. Receivers have various internal parts that help to create the sound we hear. The receivers have internal parts that filter the signals that are brought into the unit via the antenna. The sound is amplified and then converted to useable sound. The result is sound that we can hear correctly as intended.

Receivers are also used for other types of electronics. For example, a satellite television uses a receiver that collects the signals and converts them into sound and pictures that we see on the television screen. A global positioning system is a receiver that collects information that is sent via satellite and converts it to maps that help us navigate. The information provides longitude and latitude that is overlaid onto maps and even voice prompts.

The latest technology allows receivers to use specially amplified sound to create what is known as surround sound. Surround sound is sound that is separated to create an illusion that it is coming from various points in the room. Some systems use several or more speakers that are placed around the room. The sound is then separated by type and sent to the speaker of choice. This makes the most realistic sound possible and allows people to feel as though they are in the middle of where the sound is coming from.

Receivers have become technologically advanced in the last several years. There are now special receivers that allow for digital recording of television at the same time that it is viewed. The receiver allows you to pause, rewind and fast-forward through television programs. These receivers also let you record from television onto digital medium inside the units. The digital recorders are also able to provide pay per view programming quickly and easily.
